Son of Mars releases new single “Anakin” off his latest EP Son of Mars

Stephon Peters-Smith, known professionally as Son of Mars is a rapper, record producer, and songwriter. Known for his high energy and 90s styled rhythms. He was born and raised in the Caribbean islands of Trinidad and Tobago. Mars initially began gaining underground recognition as a rapper after signing with FamilyOverGold in 2019. Son of Mars released his debut EP “Son of Mars” in late 2019

The EP is a vintage piece of work that is sure to age well in the career of Son of Mars. The EP was composed by producer Ricky Johnson and Son of Mars. The artist wrote and recorded the EP himself, while still attending the University of Rochester. The EP contains three tracks “First Born, Watch Yourself, and Anakin.” The production would suggest a wide range of melodies, some branching out of the trap genre and into something else entirely.

The constantly changing, high hat patterns are welcoming, but the ear grabbers are the Kong synths and pulsing bass lines. Those are what’s most likely to bring you back. Along with the melodies, the lyrics are delivered in a way that almost glides over the production, a song on this EP could easily fit on your workout playlist.

Son of Mars the EP is often compared with the raw energy of the 2000s mixtapes, and amateurism that you would expect out of an up-and-coming artist. The EP started to gain speed just a few short weeks after its release. In late 2019 Son of Mars signed to the label FamilyOverGold and in 2020 linked up Grammy-nominated engineer Jack Brown. Mars’ aspirations have grown further, as he is hard at work on his debut mixtape due for release next year.

Son Of Mars Collaborates With Two Time Grammy-Nominated Producer https://son-of-mars.com/quia-ut-eum-deserunt/ Thu, 29 Jul 2021 23:35:37 +0000 https://son-of-mars.com/quia-ut-eum-deserunt/

Son Of Mars Collaborates With Two Time Grammy-Nominated Producer

Son Of Mars initially began gaining underground recognition as a rapper following the release of his EP, Son of Mars in 2019. He originally started making music at the University of Rochester in 2018 under the label FamilyOverGold.

The team at Family Over Gold is pleased to introduce Son of Mars into the deep end of the hip-hop industry as they believe that the rapid rapper is finally ready to take the world by storm. Family Over Gold is a new-age talent management company that puts its clients first. The company works with all sorts of talents including producers, artists, entrepreneurs, athletes, and creative minds. The company regularly churns out first-rate professionals, and this time, Son Of Mars is up.

Stephon Peters-Smith known on stage as Son of Mars is a rapper, singer, record producer and songwriter renowned for his high energy and 90s styled rhythms. Born and raised in the Caribbean Islands of Trinidad and Tobago, he moved to the US in 2016. Mars, however, discovered his passion for music in 2018 when he attended the University of Rochester. It was at the university he was able to pursue musical production and further his interests in Greek mythology and entrepreneurship. He once stated when he was younger that his family members in Trinidad often remember him referring to himself as “Demi God,” a trend that has stuck with him in the later years.

Speaking about his journey so far, Mars said, “Despite a troubled past, I began pursuing a business degree at the University of Rochester. Both University of Chicago and Cornell University offered me a position based on my academic ability and my basketball skills. So, the question I get asked all the time is “why music?” If I say it’s not for the fame, the wealth, the power or the influence I’d be lying. It’s that. However, there is a burning passion to help those who couldn’t make it pass those challenges I faced due to their circumstances. Music is a way to leave my legacy on the world and speak for the small corners of my people, that do not have a voice to speak for themselves.

Mars initially began gaining underground recognition as a rapper following the release of his EP, Son of Mars in 2019. He originally started making music at the University of Rochester in 2018 under the label FamilyOverGold. In late 2019, Son of Mars released an EP titled “SON OF MARS” which contained three singles. Shortly after the release, high profile producers started to notice him. Producers like Ness on the beat, DP beats and Royce David. In Rochester NY, he quickly began gaining popularity upon releasing his first track “First Born” produced by FamilyOverGold, which had thousands of streams within a few weeks.

The buzz continued to grow locally as Mars partnered with Nick Smith, a University of Rochester student and began growing their FamilyOverGold team. They started by collaborating with Rochester’s booming up and coming underground hip-hop network. It was through these new network connections, that he was introduced to the film fashion and photography community. Mars spent months working with local media outlets, leading up to his work with the University of Rochester’s media. The help and support of the University made it clear that Son of Mars and FamilyOverGold had to join the NACA (National Association for Campus Activities).

In August 2020, Mars met up with two-time Grammy Nominated, Multi-Platinum Producer and Engineer Jack Brown at his studio in city of Atlanta to work on upcoming singles and a project to release. It was in Atlanta that Mars began producing a different style of music.

Jack Brown who has worked closely with artists such as 2 Chainz, Lil Wayne, Kanye West, Ludacris, and French Montana was the lead engineer in some of the upcoming Son of Mars singles. With Atlanta being known as a pillar of hip-hop’s trap culture, the team is sure that the upcoming singles will reflect that.

Opening Up About New EP And Inspiration: Son Of Mars https://son-of-mars.com/sapiente-in-voluptatem-tenetur-eligendi/ Thu, 29 Jul 2021 22:13:42 +0000 https://son-of-mars.com/sapiente-in-voluptatem-tenetur-eligendi/

Opening Up About New EP And Inspiration: Son Of Mars

Son of Mars isn’t afraid to express himself. Stephon Peters-Smith is a Trinidadian native musician that has been tapping into his musical roots since 2019. His love for music sparked when he was attending University of Rochester. Son of Mars is a developing new sound and is captivating audiences with his music and visuals. In May 2021, Son of Mars released the EP Son of Mars the songs have a very upbeat vibe and smooth sounds that really caters to the listener.

Son of Mars was born and raised in the Caribbean Islands of Trinidad and Tobago, he moved to the US in 2015. Spending time between New York and Atlanta, Mars discovered his passion for music in 2018 when he attended the University of Rochester. It was at the university he was able to pursue musical production, while furthering his interests in Finance and entrepreneurship.

(Q)You’re out in New York at the time of this interview. What are you up to?

Right now I’m working on my next project. It’s a mix of songs that I’ve had on my mind for a while. I’m working with some really good producers and engineers, we all hyped for what’s coming next. Also taking in some of the NYC vybz it’s always good to be out here.

(Q)Now for those who don’t know, how did Son of Mars come up with his name?

The name Son of Mars came before I started making music. As a kid I was fascinated with Greek mythology, it was something I could always learn more about. I would always go by the name Demi God. Son of Mars came from the Greek God Aries, known as Mars. The god of war represented Trinidad and Tobago a place that at some points in time felt like a battlefield for me, it is still the most beautiful place I know and where I was born and raised. So Son of Mars to me also represents a child of Trinidad and Tobago.

(Q)Now let’s move on and talk about your new EP, Son if Mars

This project was my first attempt at putting my thoughts on a record. I loved the way it turned out considering I recorded most of the EP in my dorm while attending the University of Rochester. The EP has three tracks “First Born, Watch Yourself, and Anakin.” These are all tracks that I wanna look back at and see where I started. I wanted it to offer a really wide range of melodies, and branch out of the trap genre and into something else entirely. I feel like that’s what I’m gonna focus on for my next project.

(Q)What’s your favorite song on this project?

My favorite song on the project is Anakin. That was a freestyle verse that I recorded in one take. There was so much energy in the room that night, and we were just able to feed off of it and really turn it into something crazy. I feel like those are the best ones, the ones that come from energy.

(Q)Are you excited to get back on the stage? & are you planning on joining a tour in a near future?

Yeah I’m really excited to get on stage and perform these! I’ve been getting a lot of love from different states, so we are really tryna narrow in where the large majority are and hit there first. But I’m really excited to be on the road! I’m planning on releasing some more music soon! So before I hop on anyone’s tour I wanna make sure I get this music to the people. I also wanna experience it with them so I’ll probably wait till I drop it to hop on a collaborative tour.

(Q)Last year you signed with FamilyOverGold Entertainment What made you decide they were the best fit for you?

I signed with the FamilyOverGold label because what they do is more than a label. From since day one the approach has been to develop me as an artist and really try to better my music. I’ve seen people leave a label the same artist the went in. That was a big concern for me. The individual love and focus I get here is why I’m forever FØG

Son of Mars releases the standout track “First Born” off his debut EP

Stephon Peters-Smith, known professionally as Son of Mars, is a rapper, record producer and songwriter. Known for his high energy and 90s styled rhythms. He was Born and raised in the Caribbean islands of Trinidad and Tobago. Mars initially began gaining underground recognition as an artist following the release of his song “Anakin” off his 2019 EP Son of Mars.

“First Born” tells the story of Mars’ unique experience growing up in the Caribbean, an authoritative narrative, with ear-pleasing vocals, and tuneful melodies. The likable tune possesses vibrant instrumentation flavored with a contemporary trap/hip hop aroma, centered around his West Indian Roots. The artist composed and recorded the EP himself, while still attending the University of Rochester. The EP contains three dynamic tracks titled “First Born”, “Watch Yourself”, and “Anakin” that seamlessly combines catchy songwriting with a touch of Atlanta’s concurrent trap melodies. The product is a versatile sound that blends Son of Mars’ Trinidadian roots with the vast number of American cultures that he’d been exposed too and adopted over the years.

Son of Mars is no stranger to the Atlanta music life. In August 2020, Mars met up with Atlanta native, two-time Grammy nominated, multi-platinum producer and engineer Jack Brown at his Atlanta studio. The Trinidadian standout has been carving a name for himself as an artist you want to keep an eye on. We recommend adding Son of Mars’s “First born” single to your personal playlist. The duo is set to release a number of tracks this upcoming fall 2021.
